About Bournemouth and its neighbourhoods

Find your bearings between the beach, gardens and the distinct neighbourhoods where Bournemouth shops, works and meets.

Start with the gardens and the sea

Bournemouth's sandy beach and pier are an easy place to begin, but the town is much more than its seafront. The gardens lead inland towards the Square, while shopping streets, workplaces and residential neighbourhoods spread well beyond the central visitor area.

In the centre, Commercial Road, Old Christchurch Road and Westover Road offer different routes through the shops. The Triangle has its own cafes and independent character. St Peter's Church on Hinton Road is another recognisable landmark, with its pale stone tower and slender spire above the surrounding trees.

Choose a neighbourhood, not just a postcode

Westbourne has independent shops around Poole Road, Seamoor Road and its Victorian arcade. Winton's Wimborne Road is a busy everyday shopping street. To the east, Boscombe and Pokesdown offer vintage shops, practical services and independent businesses, while Southbourne Grove has another lively centre close to the coast.

These are distinct starting points rather than different names for the town centre. A Southbourne shop, a Charminster clinic and a mobile gardener working across Bournemouth may all be useful, but their locations and visiting arrangements will differ. Check each listing's actual address and service area before travelling.

Make a local stop part of your day

Pair a visit with the places already on your route: a bookshop in Winton, a cafe in Westbourne or an appointment closer to home. The beach and clifftops connect coastal areas, but a walk down to the promenade can involve slopes or steps. Use current access and transport information to choose a route that suits you.

The directory brings businesses and community organisations together by area and service. It is a starting point for making contact, with direct website and telephone links so you can ask the business about the details that matter to your visit.
